Your corporate retreat was just announced. Now, the hand wringing really begins. Will you have a good time? Will you really have to spend all your time chatting with your boss?
Retreats don’t have to mean all work. They can be fun — memorable, actually — with some planning in advance.
Here are a few tips from a corporate retreat blog to get you started. Avoid the dread that comes when you find out you’ll be spending some extra time with colleagues and managers at your next retreat.
1. Plan your retreats semi-annually.
Companies change — fast. But retreats are great ways to keep everyone aligned, even in fast-moving organizations. Keep everyone focused by planning at least two retreats a year.
2. Connect employees to the event.
Treat your corporate retreat just like you would any other event. It should include a consistent theme and marketing message. After all, you do want employees to attend, right?
3. Plan for social activities — and offer plenty of food.
No one wants to listen to presentations on empty stomachs. Make sure you’ve got a fully stocked fridge with snacks and your retreat location has a full menu for employees.
