Shaving can actually damage your skin

We all know shaving is a pain in the neck (or chin, or kneecap, or wherever you accidentally nick yourself), but did you know shaving can actually be bad for your skin? It seems the list of reasons to have laser hair removal treatments is only getting longer!

According to the International Dermal Institute, shaving is a form of exfoliation, but it often over-exfoliates the skin because it is so harsh. That’s why we get razor burn and ingrown hairs sometimes after shaving.

Shaving, especially when a man shaves his face daily, can cause the skin to become dehydrated and inflamed. A sign of inflammation is when your freshly-shaven skin becomes red and itchy. Men who use alcohol-based aftershaves are especially at  risk because the alcohol further strips the skin of lipids necessary to keep it hydrated. Prolonged inflammation of the skin can lead to early aging. It’s a nasty cycle!

If you’re the type of man who likes the clean-shaven look but is sick of sacrificing his skin each morning, perhaps it’s time to give us a call and discuss your laser hair removal options!
