How to support a loved one facing hard times

46702539_MSometimes it can feel like there is nothing you can do to help others feel better, especially when they’re dealing with crisis. But, simply being there can make a big difference, even if you don’t feel like you’re actually “doing” anything. Here are a few ways you can help others while they’re dealing with difficult times:

  1. Make time for your loved one. Call, text, email, stop by, and just give your loved one some attention. Let them know you’re thinking of them and wondering how they’re doing.
  2. Give your loved one a gift that shows you care. You can send them flowers, a card, or something else that reminds you of them. Letting them know they were on your mind can be uplifting.
  3. Be there to listen to your loved one. They may or may not want to talk about what they’re going through, but if they are ready to talk, make sure you’re there to listen.
  4. Offer your help with jobs. Could they use help with chores around the house or errands? Ask them what would be helpful to them.
  5. Enjoy time together. Sit with your loved one at home or offer to have them over for a meal.

It’s hard to watch people we care about go through difficult times, but there are things we can do to assist them on their walk. Be a support to your loved ones, let them know you care, and are always thinking of them.
