As we age, our bodies go through changes. Some of these, such as loss of endurance and flexibility, can make it harder to exercise but they’re all the more reason to keep up with a fitness routine. After all, exercise is one of the key ways to stave off age-related muscle stiffness, bone loss and more. Here are a few tips on how to amend your workout routine as you age.
A warm-up may be necessary
While warming up is a good idea for all age groups, it’s especially important as we grow older. Before you work out, do some gentle pre-exercises, such as stretching or walking in place, until your muscles feel loosened up.
Get the right shoes
Foot problems, such as fallen arches, can increase with the years. That’s why it’s key to make sure you’re wearing the right shoes – with the right support – for the activity you’re doing.
The road to recovery
As crucial as exercise is to your health, it’s just as important not to overdo it as you grow older. Take at least one day off per week when it comes to exercise – or more, if you feel fatigued or sore.
