This allergy season is shaping up to be one of the worst in years. Experts warn that pollen counts this year are at an all-time high. Even people who have never experienced any allergy symptoms in the previous season are suffering from watery eyes, runny noses and other nuisances.
Staying indoors can help ease the suffering but only if certain measures are taken. These tips can help make your home a safe space from allergies!
- Clean floors mean fewer allergies. Dirt and other pollutants make their way into our home on our feet. Frequently vacuuming and mopping can help keep allergy irritants to a minimum. Also, consider instituting a “no shoes” policy in the house during allergy season (or all year long!)
- Proper humidity. Your home can benefit from a healthy amount of humidity. Keeping humidity levels below 50 percent can help reduce dust and allergens. If you have high humidity in your home, a dehumidifier can help manage humidity levels indoors.
- Clean air. An in-home air purification system can help reduce the severity of allergy systems. These systems can help reduce the amount of dust mites and pollen in your home, as well as help keep other surfaces clean.
- Air-tight windows and doors. If air can blow in around windows and doors, then so can dust. Make sure seals around doors and windows are tight. (This will also help with energy efficiency in your home!)
Allergies are no fun. Make sure your home is a safe haven by implementing these ideas.
