Now’s the time for pumpkin planting!

One of the wonderful things about living on a farm is seeing the results of hard work literally grow before our very own eyes. We get to see our animals grow, and we get to see our fresh produce develop from tiny seeds buried in the soil into full-fledged veggies and fruit ripe for picking.

We want to share that experience with our visitors. We are already gearing up for our Fall Festival by planting the pumpkins that will be ripe and ready for picking come autumn. Our Whispering Pines Family Farm campers are helping us, too. We can’t wait until we have a whole patch full of pumpkins for people to pick from.

Pumpkins take about between 90 and 120 days to mature — that’s about three to four months. Perfect timing for fall! And they need 15803056_S

Did you know that pumpkins are in the same family as cucumbers, watermelons and cantaloupe? They are called gourds. And pumpkins are actually a type of squash. Pumpkins are super good for you. They are high in Vitamin A, potassium and fiber. And, of course, they are a symbol of the season of harvest. Here’s to a successful planting season and tons of pumpkins for this year’s Fall Festival!
