How many of us have broken crayons stashed away somewhere? Imagine if you could find a way to do something wonderful with those unused pieces. Two families in Spokane, Wash., are on top if it. They’re turning broken crayons into funds for the homeless.
They’re calling their charity
Gospel Mission, a local shelter. The families collect crayon pieces and create custom crayons using baking or Jell-O molds. The crayons are melted, and the wax is poured into the molds to create unique shapes. The new crayons are then sold, and the profits are used to feed the homeless.
The parents involved said it’s a great project because the kids can participate. They’re in charge of peeling the paper from the crayon pieces. And considering it was the kids’ idea, the parents are pretty proud.
Colors of Hope Spokane is trying to raise enough money to feed 5,000 people. In addition to selling their new crayon creations, they also accept donations and supplies. To find out more and to see some great pictures of what Colors of Hope Spokane in action, take a look at their Facebook page.
