Fun in the sun dōTERRA style

Summer! It’s a time when we all look forward to long days at the park, lazing by the swimming pool or boating on a lake. Whatever your preference for fun in the sun, be sure to stay protected. These sun-soothing recipes as seen in the Spring/Summer 2013 dōTERRA Living Magazine, are safe, effective and conditioning to your skin.

Ultra Moisturizing Natural Sunscreen

½ cup olive oil

¼ cup dōTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil

¼ cup beeswax

2 tablespoons zinc oxide

1 teaspoon vitamin E

2 tablespoons shea butter

12 drops dōTERRA Helichrysum essential oil

Directions: Add everything except zinc oxide in a medium-sized glass mixing bowl. Fill a medium saucepan with a couple inches of water and place over medium heat. Place the glass bowl on top of the saucepan so that the saucepan is cradling the bowl. As the ingredients start to melt, stir occasionally to mix. When all ingredients are completely incorporated, add the zinc oxide and stir well to mix. Pour into a pint-sized tin or mason jar and store in a cool place. Use within 6 months.

If you do happen to catch too many rays, here are some soothing remedies for fast relief.

Lavender After-Sun Spray

Mix 20 drops of dōTERRA Lavender essential oil with 1 ounce of aloe vera juice in a spray bottle. Store in the refrigerator and spritz on skin after long days in the sun.

Apple Cider Vinegar Wash

To ease sunburn pain, itching and inflammation, gently pat the vinegar on affected areas with a cotton ball. Leave it on to help prevent blistering and peeling. Also, try soaking in a cool bath with 1 cup of apple cider vinegar to help with discomfort.

dōTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil

FCO is awesome for adding moisture to scorched skin. Add 15 drops of dōTERRA essential oil (Lavender, Melaleuca, and Roman Chamomile are great options) to 2 ounces of FCO in a container and mix. Apply frequently to sunburned skin.
