When setting new goals to stay healthy, social media is a great place to go for tips and support. With its vast capabilities, room for advice and more, there’s virtually no topic that isn’t explored online. Whether using smartphone apps, online journals or feedback from friends, social media can make it easy to get into a healthier routine.
But that’s not to say your habits have to be public. Through Pinterest, users can “pin” recipes or workout tips, but your boards can be kept secret from others. You don’t HAVE to share what you’re looking at. You can simply use the site and others like it for information or motivation. The same is true for online magazines or articles you’ve read, which are only shared with user permission. Share if you want group motivation, or keep it to yourself if you’d rather.
For those who prefer a little encouragement from others, goals or tips can be shared via Facebook and Twitter. Tell others your plans, ask for tips, or ask others to join you.
Social media can be a great place to receive the motivation you need to exercise. Feeling like you’d rather not run after a long day at work? Post a status on Facebook or send a Tweet asking your friends for some motivation. The comments are likely to remind you why you want to exercise in the first place. Remember, though, that when you open yourself up for comments, you can’t be sensitive to what you might hear back!
