Four tips for impressive manicures

It’s never a bad idea to tune up your manicure technique, as sometimes you just need a refresher. Here are a few tips to make sure you’re providing tip-top service to your salon’s clientele:

  1. Remove Everything. Regardless of whether or not clients come in with polish on, you should still use a cotton pad soaked in polish remover to wipe nails clean. Substances like oil, lotion or debris can prevent color from bonding to nails. Also consider using a less abrasive acetone-free remover.
  2. Moisturize. When nails are hydrated, they have more flexibility. Moisturize from the outside in through applying a cuticle oil containing jojoba oil and Vitamin E.
  3. Focus on form. The oval nail shape is the best way to achieve a manicure with endurance, in contrast to squared-off manicures. Rigid corners can chip polish.
  4. Take the nail file in one direction only. Most technicians use a back-and-forth motion to buff. But this can create rough edges and make nails prone to chipping. Instead, consider using a nail file with medium grittiness, and move in one direction only.
