Make your own cuticle oil at home

One of the final steps of most manicures is the application of cuticle oil. Even though it can seem like the oil is weakening your cuticles, it actually helps strengthen them and prevents hangnails and other nail pain.

You don’t have to have a full professional manicure to moisturize your cuticles, though. You can make your own cuticle oil at home and use it whenever the edges of your nails are dry and peeling.

An array of oils can be used as cuticle oil, and you don’t even need to mix them with other products. Depending on your preference, you can use jojoba, lavender, almond, rice bran, tea tree, tangerine or vitamin E oil. Some of these oils contain antibacterial additives that will help protect your nails from nail diseases and dryness.

To apply the cuticle oil, use a dropper or a small cotton swab. If you are going to paint your nails or give yourself a home manicure, complete all the steps first and wash your hands before applying the oil.

If you have severe dryness or your cuticles are very damaged, you might want to consider applying the oil several times daily at first until your nails begin healing. Then you’re on your way to having healthy cuticles!
