Valentine’s Day + flowers = romance

Research confirms (and we know firsthand!) that Valentine’s Day is a big day for florists. In fact, it is our busiest day of the year! Why do flowers and Valentine’s Day go so well together? We think people are striving on this day to make a good impression on that special someone.

Flowers are definitely the way to go. But don’t take our word for it. Rutger’s research reveals that compared to other gifts, people who give flowers make the best impression. Flower-givers are considered more likable, friendly and emotionally intelligent. They are regarded as highly caring, trustworthy, loving and successful, and they are seen as valuing achievement and beauty in life.

While we believe that flowers are a beautiful gift all year long, we also understand that flowers are particularly meaningful for that day of the year set aside for all things romance.

And just a few notes about flower-giving etiquette:

  • Make the right choice: Classic red roses represent love or passion, while pink, yellow and white each send various messages of admiration, happiness and friendship.
  • For the best selection and to avoid the rush, be sure to place your order early!
  • Try to find out the recipient’s favorite flower or at least his/her favorite color.
  • If, by chance, you are going on a first date on Valentine’s Day, or you are not well-acquainted with your date, it is good practice to bring a single flower or a simple in-season bouquet. This is the one time on Valentine’s Day that giving roses may not be the best idea. Roses symbolize deep passion and are known for being pricey. Probably not the best fit for a first date.
