Reasons to renovate your attic

Attics: the oft-forgetten rooms of our modern houses. They just sit there, above our heads, all dusty and unloved, waiting to be transformed into something awesome. Want to expand your home? Look no further than the space below your roof. Your attic could become an extra bedroom, an office, a meditation or workout space, or that “man cave” you’ve been dreaming about.

For starters, renovating your attic is less costly than adding onto your house because walls and floor are already in place. However, not every attic can be converted. Building codes require ceilings to be a certain height. Seven-feet-six-inches is a typical requirement. Another tip: Make sure to have a structural engineer inspect your floor to ensure it can handle the added weight (say, from jumping up and down when your team scores a touchdown while you watch the big game in your new tricked-out man cave).
