If you’re a golfing kid at heart, China might have a new addition for your list of must-play courses.
A new Mission Hills Haikou development on Hainan Island is a fusion of miniature golf fun on a regular-size 18-hole course. Or as CNN described it: “Crazy golf on an insane scale.”
Call it the Great Wacky Course of China.
The fun, 18-hole adventure will include:
— A putting green that looks like it’s a piece of parsley floating in an 80-meter-wide bowl of noodles — giant-sized chopsticks included, of course.
— A hazard that resembles the Great Wall of China, winding the length of the 400-meter par-four hole.
— Fairways surrounded by scaled-down versions of the Mayan ruins, the “Birds Nest” Olympic Stadium in Bejing and a hole inspired by the beloved panda bear.
— The option to have gale-like winds increase the challenge level at tees.
The course designers from Schmidt-Curley decided they wanted to put a different spin on this layout, making it stand out and be more appealing to the Chinese public and visitors.
“Traditionalists will probably hate it,” course designer Brian Curley told CNN. “But this is real golf, with real clubs on real fairways.”
And about that noodle bowl hole on this course set to open in 2014?
No word on whether golf balls taste like tofu after a dunking.
