Baby’s first holiday season can be wonderful, precious, and magical. However, it can also be over-stimulating for infants and young children. This can leave both kids and parents exhausted! Here are a few tips on how to survive your baby’s first December.
Limit your activities
Don’t be tempted to go to every party, host every party, or say ‘Yes’ to ever play date or photo opportunity. Decide what your children can reasonably handle – then enjoy and do only those things.
Spend a little time away
Hire a babysitter and go to a party for grown-ups only. Whether it be a work function or a friendly gathering with mostly adults, a great way to survive baby’s first holiday season is to take a little break from them. After all, you deserve some getaway time, too!
Give up on perfection
Ordinarily, we don’t advise giving up on anything easily – except when it comes to the “perfect” holiday. That’s because there really is no such thing. The more time you spend worrying about whether your baby’s Christmas dress is flawless, or how to make killer matzo ball soup, the more time you lose from what really matters. Don’t forget that the holidays are about spending time with those we love, like friends and family that accept you – perfect or not!
