Winterize your skincare routine

health and beauty concept - beautiful woman in white cotton underwearJust as you change your wardrobe for winter, it’s also time to re-think your skincare routine during the colder months. Cold can really take its toll on your skin, but so do long, hot showers, sweltering offices and harsh soaps. Luckily, dry skin can often be alleviated by making a few tweaks. Here are a few expert tips:

Exfoliate. As your skin dries out, dead skin cells stop shedding, keeping moisturizer from fully sinking in. A mild exfoliant can help fight this issue. Your skin is thirsty, so give it what it needs!

Upgrade your moisturizer.  Look at the labels on your products. Ingredients like glycerin or sorbitol pull moisture from the air into your skin. When it doubt, opt for a natural product with ingredients you can pronounce. And don’t forget to apply a product with an SPF.

Have a post-shower routine. Apply a lotion within a few minutes from getting out of the shower to lock in moisture.

Invest in a humidifier. This is a great way to add moisture back into the air. You can even find ones that diffuse essential oils so your home smells good, too. Talk about a win-win!

Drink up. Staying hydrated is a great way to maintain a healthy glow. Shoot for drinking about half your body weight in ounces. And stay away from dehydrating beverages like coffee and tea.

Here’s to a beautiful you–all year-round!
