The holidays have officially arrived. That means parties to attend, gifts to give and a cozy atmosphere to create in your home. Unfortunately, all of these things can lead to a pretty busy schedule.
Luckily, we have you covered — whether you are looking for a gift for your boss or a dinner centerpiece? A cheery arrangement is always a welcome treat.

Poinsettia. Of course, we had to include this beloved, traditional Christmas plant. Can you believe that nearly 60 million poinsettias are sold nationwide each year? In fact, this bright red beauty that hails from Mexico has become so popular that December 12 has been set aside as National Poinsettia Day! Just one poinsettia brings instant holiday charm to your home.
A few care tips:
- Avoid hot or cold drafts. Especially protect it from exposure to wind or cold on the way home. Poinsettias are highly sensitive to cold temperatures and even a few minutes of exposure to a 50-degree Fahrenheit or lower temperature will cause them to wilt.
- Keep the soil moist, not soggy. Water when the soil begins to dry. Once the leaves begin to wilt, it’s too late.
- Place in a room with sufficient natural light and temperatures around 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
Seasonal accents. Although it’s cold and most plants are asleep for the winter, there are still beautiful bits of nature that can be incorporated into arrangements and other decorations for your home. Sprigs of pine, spruce, and evergreen, also juniper, are appropriate accents. Canella berries, decorative pods, pepper berries, pinecones, feathers and eucalyptus are very festive. Plus, you can never get enough of that fresh pine scent during the holidays.
Amaryllis. These bold, beautiful blossoms native to South America and Africa, are a gorgeous option for the holidays. Flower colors go from white to deep red and include some eye-catching stripped varieties. They are simple to grow yourself. Or, they look beautiful in cut flower arrangements. There’s even a mythological story associated with the amaryllis that is full of romance, unrequited love and a surprise ending. Read the full legend here!
