Pregnancy style this season: How to stay warm – but not too warm – this winter

Stack of warm sweaters isolated on white backgroundYou might think winter would be the ideal time of year for the style-conscious and pregnant. There’s no tight clothing to worry about, no one expects you to squeeze into a bathing suit, and you have lots of options for accessories (great scarves and boots)! But with cranked heaters and the extra layers of body heat, many women find that they need a strategy to manage the changing temperatures to stay comfortable.

It may be cold outside, but some women still find they’re hot, sweating, and just looking for an opportunity to shed those extra cute layers. And it’s not all about the fashion, either: Icy sidewalks can seem especially treacherous when you’re balancing even just a little extra weight.

To stay stylish and comfortable this season, here are a few basic tips for what to wear:

  • Opt for boots with traction – streets and sidewalks can be slick. Treat yourself to a really great pair! You’ll be able to wear them long after you deliver.
  • Dress in layers. Did you know your body temperature is running on average about two degrees higher than usual? There’s a reason you’re running hot when it’s cool out. So go ahead and put on that short sleeve shirt – just bring along a cardigan, scarf, and a coat for when you head out.
  • Test out your old coat before buying a new one. Early term pregnancies can often easily fit into a roomy winter coat. Give your old version a try before splurging for a new one. (And maybe that extra money saved can be used for the boots, or some other new item.)
