When the seasons change, so should your storage and organizational strategy. As the temperatures start to drop and the holiday season creeps up on us, follow these tips to make sure your family’s winter is the best ever!
Start with the closet
It might sound obvious, but your closet is the most logical place to start. Believe it or not, many people don’t organize their closets as the seasons change. If you leave your summer wardrobe mixed in with your heavy winter coats and long underwear, you aren’t only going to feel overwhelmed, you’ll also have a lot of trouble selecting an outfit. When the seasons change, store anything that’s out of season in a storage space. You’ll save space, and cut back on stress.
Prepare your car
Nobody wants their car to break down, and they especially don’t want it to happen in the winter. Unfortunately accidents do happen, and surprises can come up. Because of this, it’s a really good idea to make sure your car is equipped with warm clothing and supplies in case something bad happens. Stock up on blankets, hand and foot warmers. Store extra batteries, flashlights and candles in the back of the trunk. Do you have flares? A tire jack? How about an emergency phone? Make sure you have these things as well. After all, it’s much better to be safe than sorry.
Keep things dry
Unless you live in a warmer climate, chances are good that you’ll battle snow and ice throughout the winter. If you aren’t careful where you hang up your wet clothes, you can destroy wood floors, or other important clothing items. Have an area in your house where you can hang up anything that is wet or covered in snow. By separating your wet clothes they’ll dry quicker and you’ll avoid damaging anything important. If you have a furnace, you can even line up wet boots or gloves against it in order to dry things out quicker.
Re-organize your garage
Are your snow shovels, skis and t sleds still up in garage loft? Get it down, and quick! You don’t want the first snow storm to hit and not have the proper tools to clear the driveway or the sidewalk. Take an hour or two to make sure all of your winter supplies are easily accessible!
By following these four simple tips you can be prepped and ready to take on the winter in no time flat! Just make sure to stay warm while you’re at it!
