Time to get you and your car ready for winter

Red car with outside mirror covered of icingIs your car ready for winter? Here are some things that you can do to prepare your vehicle — and you — for the cold-weather months.

Create a winter safety kit. To protect you and your loved ones in the event you become stranded in your car during cold weather, be sure you have food and water in your car, along with a flashlight, batteries, blankets, gloves and a first-aid kit.

Schedule a checkup. Before the big storm hits, it’s a great time to check your car’s battery, lights, brakes, hoses, heater/defroster and belts. Check to see if your vehicle needs a thicker type of oil during the winter months.

Wipers. Don’t let your windshield cake up with ice because you failed to check the washer fluid! Add more as needed, and ensure your wiper blades are in good working order. You don’t want to find out your wiper blades are in bad condition during a bad rainstorm.

And don’t forget: During the winter, it’s always a good idea to keep your tank at least half full at all times. Here are some more great wintertime driving tips.
