Pizza often has a bad reputation for being a splurge food — something that you eat when you want to break your diet. Well, we think it’s time to expose the healthier side of pizza. And so, we present the health benefits of pizza:
First, pizza is a great way to introduce different vegetables to your children. Why? Because kids love to eat pizza! And while they might refuse to eat mushrooms or olives on their own, they might be more tempted by the idea of those vegetables on a pizza mixed in with a bunch of cheese and sauce.
Aside from the vegetables on top, pizza is also rich in nutrients from foods found in the sauce. Tomatoes are a good source of antioxidants, and you can also find a variety of vitamins and nutrients in onions, black olives and red peppers, all of which often make an appearance in pizza sauce’s ingredients list.
Remember that food pyramid they taught you about in elementary school? Well, having a balanced diet from the major food groups is a proven way to stay healthy. And pizza is a great way to get a variety of different food groups from wheat, dairy and vegetables.
Hopefully you’ll be able to see pizza from the healthy angle. And, let’s face it, it’s also pretty darn delicious!
